Aurion Large Loose Ring Double Jointed with Lozenge

Suitable for horses that:

• Fall out through the shoulder

• Do not respond to the outside rein

• Are green and learning to turn from the leg

• Need steering help but lean when the bit becomes rigid

How it works

Mouthpiece. 14mm, double jointed, with curved cannons angled forward to follow the shape of the tongue. The lozenge lies flat on the tongue rather than standing upright between tongue and palate, so tongue pressure is spread across the width of the tongue. There is no nutcracker action and nothing reaches the palate. Cannons and lozenge are the same alloy throughout.

Cheek piece.At 85mm the ring is considerably larger than a standard loose ring, and that extra ring lies flat against the side of the face. When the inside rein is used the opposite ring presses against the cheek and gives the horse a clear boundary to turn away from, and the size of the ring prevents the bit being pulled through the mouth. Underneath it is still a loose ring: the ring runs through the mouthpiece, the horse can position the bit, and pressure comes off the moment the rein is given. The additional ring weight also gives a steadier feel in the hand.

Material. Aurion is a high copper concentrated alloy. Copper oxidises gently in saliva and gives off a faint sweet, metallic taste, which draws the horse to mouth the bit and salivate. Because the whole mouthpiece is Aurion and not just the centre link, that taste runs the full length of the bar. Aurion also warms towards body temperature faster than steel. The colour deepens with use. Rings are stainless steel.

Allow 2 to 5mm clearance at each side so the ring can rotate. Check that a ring of this size clears the noseband and any martingale before the first ride. Aim for one to two soft wrinkles at the corners of the mouth.

Rinse and dry after use. If you prefer the surface brighter, bring it back with a soft cloth. Do not soak.
